Vita Launch Library Announced

vitalaunch.jpg

Well, the PlayStation Vita launched in Japan last weekend, but what will those of us in North America get to play on the shiny new handheld when it launches on our shores on February 22? Sony is promising a massive 25 games available at launch, with over 100 more in development. That's kind of a crazy number. But are there any system sellers in there? Let's take a look, shall we?

SCEA Launch Day Titles
Escape Plan (PSN Only)
Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational
Hustle Kings (PSN Only)
Little Deviants
ModNation Racers: Road Trip
Super StarDust Delta (PSN Only)
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
wipEout 2048

Launch Window Titles
Gravity Rush
MLB 12 The Show
Reality Fighters
Unit 13

Third Party Launch Titles
Army Corps of Hell (Square Enix)
Asphalt Injection (Ubisoft)
Ben 10 Galactic Racing (D3)

Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen (Namco Bandai)
Tales of Space: Mutant Blobs (PSN Only) (Drinkbox)
Touch My Katamari (Namco Bandai)
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Capcom)
Virtua Tennis 4: World Tour Edition (Sega)

Launch Window Titles
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 (WBIE)
Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (NIS)
Ninja Gaiden ∑ Plus (Tecmo Koei)
Ridge Racer (Namco Bandai)
Silent Hill Book of Memories (Konami)
Supremacy MMA: Unrestricted

Also, the PS Vita will be shipping with its own AR play cards and a voucher to download a handful of AR Play mini-games just like Nintendo has with the 3DS.

I have to say that there's really nothing here that makes me want to run out and grab one of these at launch. It is an impressive lineup of games, but aside from Katamari and Uncharted, nothing's really grabbing me. So I think I'm going to hold off and see what else comes down the pipeline. Sometimes it might take a while, but every system has that game that finally gets me to cave! (And hopefully when that day comes, the Vita might have had a price drop or two!)

I might be persuaded by the Persona 4 vita remake in 2012. It's the only Persona I've played all the way through and I wouldn't mind replaying as a female protagonist.

Wow, terrible launch titles. Not one single title I'm even slightly interested in. I know that the Ys game is coming out as a Vita exclusive, so I guess I'll just wait until then.

Ha. And they said the 3DS launch window was bad. :P

*Sigh!*

Wooini, please, just stop posting anything Sony related. Your extreme Nintendo fanboyism always ends up soaking through the post and it becomes so opinionated that it probably belongs on your Facebook profile and not on GG.net.

Nothing of interest? Your opinion. Price too high? Your opinion.

Seriously, you ran out and picked up a 3DS on day one and that literally had nothing worth playing until a Zelda remake months after the release date. But, you can't find anything else on the massive list of Vita games besides Katamari and Uncharted? Well then that's YOUR problem and probably something you could have shared on Facebook...

I always hope for square enix to release a good rpg like final fantasy or dragon quest but this is not the case. I'll just wait for when a similar game like Ys comes out and hopefully ps vita price drops!

Is it going to be fully backwards compatible with the psp?

Nostromo said:

Sorry about the misspelling *Wootini*.

Also, wasn't the 3DS the same price as the lower model Vita on release date? So, the 3DS was the right price to pick up on day one, but the Vita, which is the same price (or a whole whopping $50 more), is just too expensive for day one pick up? Huh?

no thanks Sony, you burned me hard on the PSP launch, I think I am going to hold off on this one for a while. lesson learned.

Wootini said:

Yes, Nostromo, it is just my opinion. Sorry if you don't agree with it. I will freely admit that the 3DS was overpriced at launch as well. And it had a terrible launch library. The Vita has lots of games, which is good, but there's no system-sellers in my opinion.

Honestly, the reason that I love the 3DS has nothing to do with being a Nintendo fanboy (I still play my 360 more in general, I think) and everything to do with loving anything 3D.

It should be no surprise to anyone that the main focus of GG.net is anything related to Nintendo, seconded by Microsoft.

As far as launch titles, it doesn't matter if games at launch aren't your cup of tea because Nintendo's 3DS launch was FAR worse for system sellers. The Vita is at least technologically worth it's price regardless of what's at launch.

Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Rayman Origins, Uncharted, and Katamari alone will be system sellers. There are also high profile titles coming within a month or two after launch as well.

As usual, a system purchase is based on what appeals to you and not the opinions of other people.

Wootini, you crazy! Uncharted is a system seller and a lot of people are eagerly awaiting the Vita's release because of this one game alone. It's pretty much the reason why I preordered my Vita from Amazon months ago. I found over fifteen games on that list that I also plan on picking up which is mind blowing for a system release of any kind.

And while I am not a fan of the series, once Call of Duty gets released on the Vita and the rabid fans realize that they can play online matches on the go, the sales for the Vita will skyrocket. Truth.

Akamaru said:

I have to disagree with Wootini about there being nothing compelling to run out and buy a Vita over. The Vita launch line-up is a night and day difference from the ridiculously lackluster 3DS lineup almost a year ago.

It took Nintendo 9 months to do what Sony is about to do in the span of a couple week launch window...release some decent games.

I'm still holding off on getting a Vita because I refuse to buy game systems at launch. Especially after being gifted a 3DS on launch and having it sit on my desk for 9 month until Super Mario 3D Land was released due to my refusal to rebuy ports of N64 games and the general lack of anything worth paying $40 for.

This should be an interesting and competitive handheld generation if Sony can keep the momentum up.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
