Today, Perfect World Entertainment has announced that their sci-fi MMO, Star Trek Online, will now be free-to-play.
"We couldn't be more excited," said Jack Emmert, CEO, Cryptic Studios, Inc. "Updating Star Trek Online to the popular free-to-play model removes those barriers of entry that previously kept fans and casual gamers away. Anyone can download and play Star Trek Online at no cost. There's no better way to see how sitting in the captain's chair feels."
You'll captain your own starship as either part of the Federation or Klingon empire in a persistent online universe featuring new weekly episodes that advance the story while taking you to far-flung locations across the Star Trek universe. in addition, you can use The Foundry to create and build your own missions to share with the Star Trek Online community. So really, the only limit here is your imagination!
To download and play Star Trek Online, just visit the official website to get started. And if you do dive in, you might want to look for the Mattachine Fleet or the House of Mattachine (depending on whether you want to go Starfleet or Klingon), which are LGBT groups in the game!
