Super Mario Star Road, The Mod You Should See For Super Mario 64
The six year gap between Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine was an unheard of travesty that continues to haunt my increasingly dusty N64 to this day. Fortunately, some creative modders have tirelessly rectified this problem and released their creation, Super Mario Star Road, and put out a trailer to showcase their genius.
And holy hell, the result is crazy (at the very least, facemeltingly awesome).
With 30 levels and 120 stars to collect, Super Mario Star Road represents an impressive effort on the part of fans. Development has continued since release, with a patched version already released to fix some minor issues. I tried it, it was pretty decent. The music... well, they should've gone with arrangements of the original themes, because these are lifted wholesale from other games, and it shows. They're also a bit too loud, I feel. Other than that, they definitely designed it well. For those just starting, lose all your lives, see what happens. It's pretty amazing.
