Voting For PSN Gamers' Choice Begins Tomorrow

As everyone with the sense God gave a rhubarb stalk knows, democracy is a sham. An anemic, malformed monstrosity, wholly incapable of making sound decisions - offering only groupthink of the most vulgar sort - democracy stumbles mindlessly, and for the most part, aimlessly, across the body politic. Yet again and again, this dread specter emerges from the mist of lies from whence it came, waxing poetic about this "voting" business, in the interest of fostering the illusion that the push of so many buttons (or the pull of so many levers, if you live in the boonies) constitutes participation in what is, at its core, a first-rate farce.

More annoying is the fact that when it comes to the public sphere, bribing someone to vote is illegal. Even in its most innocuous form - be it Ramen, boxers, or the promise of unlimited free kittens - such funny business rarely escapes the eye of Johnny Law. Yet as my right-wing relatives are fond of saying when they're not screaming in tongues, that's why were have the private sector.

Indeed, the vote for the PSN Gamers' Choice awards is set for this Tuesday, bringing with it not only a shiny, blue participation ribbon, but the promise of savings on select games. Those who vote via the PlayStation Store can save 30% on the winning titles; for those with a PS Plus membership, said titles will be discounted by 50%.

Check out the nominees (compiled neatly by Destructoid) after the jump!

I find this whole situation fascinating. Essentially the choice is "Which of these games would you most like to get at a 30% discount?" Which means that it isn't a "Gamer's Choice" in the traditional sense. If you thought Street Fighter III was the best whatever, you've probably bought it and won't vote for it.

So it will be a "best of the rest", and will essentially serve the purpose of giving a prestigious sounding award to something that is maybe second or third best. Which will get people to buy it. Which is really pretty brilliant.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
