Square Enix Would Like To Welcome You Back To Final Fantasy XIV

ff_leg1.jpg

Square Enix wants to lure you back into their online MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, and if you're already still playing it, reward you for it.

The Legacy Campaign will be offered to players who have been subscribers of FF XIV for at least 90 days between January 6, 2012 and the start of the version 2.0 beta testing. You'll be able to lock in a lowered subscription rate of $9.99 for 30 days and receive an exclusive in-game Chocobo mount when v 2.0 launches. And as a bonus thank-you, these dedicated community members will have their names included in the v 2.0 credits.

The Welcome Back Campaign wants lapsed FF XIV players to return to Eorzea with a 10-day free-to-play window that spans from 8am PST on May 9 to 11:59 pm PST on May 20. Returning players will be able to experience the Seventh Umbral Era content and try new additions to the game like the job system and the battle against Garuda.

I'm not an MMO player, so I don't personally know how enticing these offers are, but I know some of you are, so you might be tempted to jump back into the fray!

If it was a F2P model or had a single, upfront cost of $60 or less, sure. As it stands, no way.

I can deal with high up-front costs, but it's the subscriptions that always kill it for me. The moment you stop subscribing is the moment that you realize the other months you subscribed were a waste, so you keep putting in more money to put it off, thereby continuing the cycle.

It's a fun game and has improved so much since it was first released. Unless you are running multiple characters it's a fairly low entry price as of now. On Amazon you can download or buy it with the standard 30 days for $19.99 and it's $6.99 plus $3.00 per character. Keep in mind that your character plays like one out of FF5 so you go any route and simply change over to another without losing anything. You actually have to change around a bit to get the specialization jobs. For $9.99 a month after the release of v2.0 it's not that much of an investment really.

MMOGs.....
I'd say the big big times of the MMOGs are, well, not over, but it's definitely not as hot as in the early days.
It's simply not THAT exciting any more to be connected to many other gamers around the 'net (wow!). While I've exclusively played MMOGs for quite some years and couldn't imagine to ever return to offline gaming, it's, well, offline gaming again:) No harrassements, no addictions, turn off the game when YOU want to do it and not the guild, and so forth... :)

[Ok, well, there will be Guild Wars 2, won't it?^^]

You don't play MMOs? Maybe that's for the best... the way you play Animal Crossing I could see an MMO destroying your life.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
