Video: Resident Evil: Retribution Trailer
Okay, look. I know the Resident Evil movies aren't great. Nobody's going to win an Oscar for anything in them. Okay, maybe make-up or something, but you know what I mean. But damned if they aren't totally fun popcorn movies. And with the fifth in the series landing in theaters on September 14, Sony released a new trailer to whet your appetites.
I remember watching the first one and being all, "Alice? There's no Alice in the games! To hell with her." (Although props to Capcom for not pulling a Street Fighter and trying to make Resident Evil: The Movie: The Game) But then Milla Jovovich was all kinds of ass-kicking awesome and I fell in love. She's one of the few women I'd give it a go for, if you know what I mean! (Oddly, Angelina Jolie is the other, but I swear there's no weird videogame heroine thing going on...) The trailer has me super excited for Resident Evil: Retribution, especially since Ada Wong is all over it, and wearing her ridiculously impractical red evening gown! Also, there's a quick shot of Leon Kennedy, if you're watching closely. Plus, it'll be fun to see all the old favorites from past entries in the series as they warp and twist poor Alice's mind. (I also enjoy how the opening of the trailer totally references the Dawn of the Dead remake) And it's one of the few movies that I will make a point of seeing in 3D, because it was actually shot in 3D properly, and the 3D wasn't added after the fact like in other movies we could mention.
So I'm a fan of the Resident Evil movies. Don't judge me!

I have seen every single one of these films multiple times in theaters. I LOVE THEM. Needless to say, I am super excited to watch the next one!
I really like the other RE movies (except for the first one), so I'm really excited for this. It looks like a great action flick, also Johann Urb is playing Leon. :)
You're not alone, Wootini - I LOVE the Resident Evil movies. Sure, they aren't Shakespeare. But as I recall, Shakespeare never wrote about the zombie apocalypse. For what they are, they're good, fun, entertaining romps. And now I want to watch them. But I'm too busy playing Assassins Creed (yeah yeah yeah, I know it's an old game. But the trailers of the next one have really wet my appetite and I'm not picking up a story part way through lol). Choices choices...
im sad that ali larter and wentworth miller wont be in this one.
I have loved the RE movies since the first one. Milla is my spirit animal. Ever since she BIG BADABOOM'd in 5th Element, I have followed her from movie to movie. I prefer her in the action roles where she is kicking ass, though. And the RE series delivers.
It isn't often at all anymore that we get movies with action heroines as protagonists, moreso ones that aren't sexualized (a la Charlie's Angels). So this is good. It's a popcorn muncher. I can just sit down, watch Milla beat everyone up, and just enjoy a fun ride with an awesome lady. That's all I need in an action flick.
I completely love the movies as a separate entity. I'll never figure out why people can't figure out that they aren't MEANT to be an adaptation.
