Gallery: Silent Hill: Book Of Memories

The PlayStation Vita still hasn't had a real system-seller for me (I'm also kind of hoping for a price drop before this holiday season...), but when games were being announced before the portable's release, I definitely perked up when I saw that Silent Hill: Book of Memories was on the list. The title's similarity to the last good Silent Hill game I've played, Shattered Memories, immediately had me hoping for the best.

So imagine my disappointment to learn that it's actually a co-op multiplayer game instead of the usual survival horror. As time went on, I still sort of thought that maybe it might end up being okay, but every time I see screenshots of it, that feeling fades further and further away. I mean, it just looks like Silent Hill: Diablo to me. I mean, that's clearly what they're going for, but when I play a Silent Hill game, I want creepy survival horror that gets under my skin and freaks me out. If I wanted to play Diablo, I'd play Diablo.

Also, the quality of these graphics are kind of disappointing. Is it me, or do these look like PSP-quality? I know the Vita is capable of more. I've seen it. Just not here.

You're basing your view off of pictures, and the game isn't meant to be a typical Silent Hill game. There was an article a while back about one of the editors of some game site who played it and was loving it.

You're not going to know until you try it, but if you're expecting Silent Hill as usual you're not going to get into it.

A SH: Diablo doesn't sound all that bad to me, since I'm getting tired with the fantasy theme anyway.

Don't think I'm bothered with such a SH spin-off. . . . Just some mindless hack & slashg fun without burdening my brain with where this fits within the SH world, just like I don't really think much when playing Marvel VS Capcom (which, to me, is a biggest lolwut issue.)

Yes, why would anyone expect a Silent Hill type game from something called, let me see... ah, "Silent Hill." Obviously a completely different thing.

If they're going to make something that has nothing to do with the original IP, it may be time to make a new IP.

Next you'll be saying people made a Mario game where they race cars!

Oh wait...

From what I've read, this game looks very intriguing. The soundtrack is AMAZING. I wouldn't buy a Vita for it, like I would a "real" Silent Hill title, but if I ever end up with a Vita (unlikely), I'll for sure play this.
