Okay, now Namco Bandai is just deliberately messing with me. They had announced a collector's edition of the hotly-anticipated (at least by me and one of my friends) PS3 exclusive Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. It contains a 300+ hardbound copy of the Wizard's Companion, the in-game spellbook that lead character Oliver uses throughout his journey. It's a complete illustrated bestiary and catalog of items, spells and history. You'll also get a plush doll of Drippy, Oliver's guide through his adventure, as well as exclusive "golden mite" and "golden drongo" DLC familiars. And I was totally able to resist it at the price point of $99.99. But now they're adding to it!
It seems like everyone's got a Kickstarter nowadays, so Namco Bandai has created what they're calling a Ninostarter. Basically, it will track the number of Wizard Edition pre-orders and as the numbers rise, additional items will be unlocked. Of course, they're not saying what the extra items will be, and at the time of my writing this article, they're not even half-way to their first pre-order goal. But you have until the cut-off date of August 31 to order it and add yourself to the tally of fans.
I mean, they pretty much had me when they created an RPG from Studio Ghibli and LEVEL-5. Adding in a score by Joe Hisaishi is just icing on an already-delicious cake as far as I'm concerned. The plush is so super-cute, and that book looks spectacular. Aargh! I think I might cave any day now. If you want to join me, pre-orders for Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch are being taken exclusively at Club Namco. But remember, while the game isn't due until January 22, 2013 (poop!), they're going to stop taking pre-orders on the Wizard's Edition on August 31!
