Cast Your Vote In The Golden Joysticks

It's time once again for the Golden Joystick Awards, which are the longest-running videogame awards in the world. And this year marks their 30th anniversary! The very first Golden Joystick Awards were held in 1983 and handed out trophies to Manic Miner, The Hobbit and Jetpac among other titles. Over the years, the awards have grown to change with the industry, this year adding new categories like Best Downloadable Content, Best Mobile/Tablet Game and Best Browser/Flash Game. Of course, there are 16 categories with tons of nominees in each one, so I'm not listing them all here. You can check out the website for full lists.

The 30th Annual Golden Joysticks Award ceremony will be held on Friday, October 26 at London's Park Plaza Westminster, and will be hosted by the quite funny comedian Ed Byrne. (I've seen him on the Graham Norton Show) He's not only a joker, but apparently a joystick aficionado, with his own gaming den where he plays titles like Battlefield and Uncharted with friends. So I guess when he's talking about the various games, he'll actually know what he's talking about, which will make things less awkward than some other gaming awards we could mention...

Of course, the fun of the Golden Joystick Awards is that the winners are actually voted on by you. Gamers around the world are invited to cast their votes and try to get their favorites a trophy. All you have to do is visit the Golden Joystick Awards website, and start clicking. Then check back at the end of October to see if your favorites won!

I'm a little dismayed that Dust: An Elysian Tail doesn't seem to be part of the games nominated in the downloadables category. Other titles in the Summer of Arcade managed to show up, but why not the one game I felt was the best of the bunch this summer?

I really think that there should be a write-in option. None of the games in the "One to Watch" category were ones that I am excited about. I find it interesting that only a fifth or so of the games on that list were not sequels.
I wonder if companies pay to have their game included on the list. It seems like the only games you can vote on were the "big-name" games.

What I realized after I posted my comment was that this is more a measure of popularity rather than how good the games are. So, it makes sense that the games that can be voted on are only the most popular ones.

Despite having said this I think this is a good way to do video game awards.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
