Video: Style Savvy: Trendsetters Trailer

Nintendo's announcement that the 3DS sequel Style Savvy: Trendsetters would be coming out on October 22 got me all psyched for the game, so I dug my copy of the DS original out of mothballs to see how my shop, "Sassy", was doing. Turns out I've got more money than I know what to do with, and a store full of stock so I can't buy any more. But that's besides the point. What I want to say is that I had forgotten how much addictive fun it was to play dress-up with the customers. And myself! Heck, the last time I played it must have been in the fall or winter, because my character was dressed in a long skirt and heavy jacket. She looked fabulous, but not seasonal. So I gave her a fabulous new short hairdo and summery wardrobe, then went to town helping customer after customer find the perfect look for them.

So needless to say, I'm super-excited for the sequel to hit the 3DS. Especially because you get to dress up cute boys as well, this time around! I'm going to miss holding the DS sideways, especially since the vertical screen was helpful when looking at an entire look from head to toe. But at the same time, based on the footage in this trailer, I can appreciate having the customer on screen at the same time as the outfit you're putting together for them. In the original, you have to keep switching back and forth if you want to remind yourself what their personal style appears to be so you can pick just the right clothing to sell them. I'm also loving the graphics, especially that fashion show footage. The clothes are going to look fantastic. And I hope that Nintendo takes advantage of SpotPass to automatically download new designers and special items to our shops!

Come on, who else is getting this on day one with me?

I want to get this for my niece and I to play! I know she'd love it, and I think it looks like a cool game. I'm glad you liked the first one so I know this is probably going to be good too.

ME! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ME!

I'm going to go to GameStop and ask to pre-order it just to see the look on their faces. I love the heck out of the original Style Savvy, and I didn't have confidence that the sequel would get brought over. It must have more fans than I thought.

On a special note, the entire reason I started reading GayGamer was an article somebody had written about loving Style Savvy, so... memories!

The introduction of guys is really cool, and I wonder if you'll be able to play as either gender. As a straight guy, I must say that one of the chief draws of the original Style Savvy was making cute anime girls even cuter and making them super happy. My big complaint about the original was that I had to be a girl, which caused some displacement for me. I did get used to it though, and I'm wondering if I'd rather look at a guy or a girl for the entire game.

If nothing else, I'm hoping that this game won't include anything like the ridiculous non-romance between your character and Dominic in the first game. It was so distracting, mostly because nothing ever happened except Dominic getting all blushy over you and running away. I've enjoyed reverse gender dating sims before (Revolutionary Girl Utena for Saturn, w00t), but it was such an awkward subplot. Hopefully they'll concentrate on the fashion and friends. Or at least let the romance amount to anything.

David, that original Style Savvy article was probably the review that I wrote back when it came out! :-D

And when I originally wrote about this sequel, I pondered whether or not you could also play as a boy, since the character models are already there, but I haven't seen any definitive information on it anywhere. I would honestly guess not, though, because the game is obviously marketed towards girls, and also because there's the hair and make-up salon, which wouldn't get any use at all if you were playing as a boy.

But agreed on the dating subplot! Don't be such a tease!

Awesome, Wootini! When I found that article, I was incredibly stoked to find a website that actually bothered to talk about it as an actual game. My wife and I love all kinds of games, and especially enjoy playing "girl" games like Style Savvy, Pony Friends and Princess Debut together. Unfortunately, we could never find a way to tell if any of these games were any good, since nobody takes them seriously enough to review them (God forbid someone should fail to review the latest identical re-release of Capcom Vs Your Mom 3).

I come to Gay Gamer because you're the best source for reviewing that entire spectrum of casual and/or feminine games without dismissing them as "something for your girlfriend". Thanks for being awesome!

Sorry to repeat post, but I forgot to mention one of the most fun things about playing the original Style Savvy: Since I knew nothing about women's make up, I had to ask my wife to give me a tutorial on what everything is and what it did. She had so much fun teaching me all of the "ancient chinese secrets" of ladies' cosmetics.

She's really hoping I get to play as a guy so that I can learn all about men's cosmetics this time around. She swears she doesn't want me to look like a KPop idol, but I'm starting to wonder :P

I LOVED the heck out of the original one. I beat the Japanese one and then beat the English version a few months later. I hope to see some higher heels. Id love a nice sexy 6 inch stiletto.

I love fashion and dress-up so I play Style Savvy nearly everyday! Too bad I won... without a romantic relationship or anything -____-. Its still really fun, but it gets pretty old fast. I've been dying for the Style Savvy Trendseters, but one problem, I have 3 DS's. No way am I going to be able to get it! Ill get in trouble for being spoiled... when they are hand-medowns. My first DS got run over by a car (LOL) so I really only had 1. Anyone pray with me that they'll convert it to DS too!?

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
