Hands On: Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge

Team NINJA and Tecmo Koei say that they listened to fans' complaints about Ninja Gaiden 3 and fixed things up for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge for the Nintendo Wii U. Of course, one of the things that I was told they fixed was improving the enemy AI. What, like it wasn't already hard enough? Because my playthrough of the demo was insane. It was nonstop waves of enemies, all of which died in spectacularly gory fashion... well, until I died, anyway.
For the first time, you'll be able to play as Ayane in addition to Ryu. Naturally, I played as her in the demo, and she kicks ass. You play with the GamePad, using the thumbstick and buttons, and occasionally the touchscreen to select weapons or execute special moves. There's up to eight-player multiplayer battles, and also a two-player co-op mode where you can play online as either Ryu or Ayane and your friend plays the other. You can also upgrade your weapons and powers, as well as increase your character's HP level, adding a bit of an RPG flavor to the franchise.
The over-the-top combat was pretty fun, and the gore goes so far that it becomes hilarious. You're dismembering people left and right. It's kind of awesome. It goes a little overboard with the special effects, but that's part of the charm. I laughed as I was slicing enemies to ribbons as I worked my way through an extremely linear outdoor downtown area and noticed the RP (rating pending) logo on the display. Like this sex and violence filled game was going to get anything other than an M!
