Try The Walking Dead For Free!

walkingdeadapp.jpg

The Walking Dead has already won Game of the Year from multiple outlets, but there are still a lot of people out there who haven't played this amazing, amazing adventure game. So to rectify that, Telltale has put the first episode, "A New Day" on sale for $0.00 in the Apple App Store. That's right. It's free.

You can download the base app for free and it includes the first episode. The other four can be bought for $4.99 each or for $14.99 in a bundle to save a little money. And believe me, you're going to want to play the whole thing. So click on over to the App Store and play it on your iDevice today! (Because this is a limited time offer, and Telltale isn't specifying how long it's going to be free, so when I say jump on it, you jump!)

Oh, and if zombies aren't your thing, Telltale is putting a whole bunch of other games on sale for just $.99 an episode. That's games like Back To the Future, HECTOR, Jurassic Park: The Game, Law & Order: Legacies, Monkey Island Tales, Puzzle Agent, Puzzle Agent 2, Sam & Max Beyond Time and Space, Sam & Max Episode 1: The Penal Zone for iPad and Wallace & Gromit The Last Resort for iPad. These games will be at their sale prices until the new year, so you'll have time to play The Walking Dead and then move on to them!

I don't get the love for this game/games/whatever the heck it is.

Tried it on the PS3 when it first came out and ended up deleting it after a short trial.

Controls were really sluggish, not a fan of the art direction, and I can't stand games where you need to protect a kid.

What am I missing? The fact that I find the show itself boring as hell might not help, though I've an avid zombie movie/novel fan.

Well, obviously no game is going to be for everyone. I personally thought the art direction was great, making it feel like the comic book come to life. And the characters were both more interesting and more sympathetic than the ones on the TV show. I cared when the game characters met horrible fates (even the ones I DIDN'T like). Of course, I'm a big fan of adventure games in general, so that probably helped from the start...

I'm just seeing so many year end reviews of this game that are either saying it's a Must Play, Pick of the Year, or just generally glowing, that I'm wondering what I'm not seeing that everyone else is.

Granted there are loads of games that get great reviews that I've no interest in, but this one seems to be popping up all over the places in the past few weeks, can't go to a site without running into it.

I find the game to be more like a story. Not had to really protect a kid yet and I've went through episodes 1-3 so far. Not really had to protect anyone...it's just an options game. It's been enjoyable except for the save game glitches between episodes.
