Celebrating Hyrule Historia
On Friday, January 25, Nintendo held a special event at its Nintendo World Store in New York City to launch Hyrule Historia, a new art book published by Dark Horse Comics. The book itself comes out on Tuesday, January 29, (at which point, I will be posting a review), but from 6-8 pm on Friday night, fans could get their hands on a copy early, and enjoy festivities including refreshments and a costume contest. This explains why the line went down the block and stayed going down the block for the entire two hours despite the temperature being about 20 degrees and snow falling from the sky. Zelda fans are dedicated.
After the jump, you’ll find an entire photo gallery of the event including all the entrants in the costume contest. Some of them were pretty impressive, and I totally agree with the winner (and am totally jealous of her prize!).
(Apologies for the gallery… it’s one of the things that we haven’t quite nailed down with the redesign…)
Choose your poison… er, I mean POTION!
You almost don’t want to ruin the display by taking a cupcake… almost…
Not for sale, but you can buy them online!
Whosoever pulleth the Master Sword from the stone shall be crowned king of Nintendo World!
He was working the event as a co-host, not an entrant!
Forget the book — I’ll take a Deku shield and a fairy in a bottle, please!
Tons of Zelda merch was on display in the case
This collage was made up of thousands of Facebook profile pics of Nintendo fans. You might be in it!
Okay, the two on the ends are professionals, so not really fair.
Who’s behind the mask?
Loved this one, down to the handmade harp
A very impressive Zelda
This was Sassy Zelda who posed like a proper diva. She was seriously awesome.
I would’ve thought the boss key would be bigger…
This one came with his own Lon Lon milk
All of the entrants lined up for final judging
These two shared third place
This Zelda won second
And she earned the grand prize, and this amazing statue!
