Today I was fortunate enough to come across a delightful video in which Ellen Mclain, the voice of Portal’s GLaDOS, bakes a cake. Whether or not the cake is a lie is still tbd, but the question remains: Why is Ms. Mclain baking a delicious confectionary treat for the internet? What in the world could this momentous occasion be for?
Turns out, Ellen is working on a new LGBT indie film called Winning Dad. The film is currently seeking funding via Kickstarter, and five lucky backers will not only be titled executive producers of the project but will also receive a cake baked by Ellen herself.
Let me rephrase that: Support this movie and GLaDOS will bake you an actual cake.
Colby’s dad knows his son is gay, but he doesn’t like talking about it. He respects it, but ignores everything about that aspect of his son’s life–he doesn’t even know about Colby’s long-term boyfriend, Rusty.
Increasingly committed to Rusty, Colby hatches a plan to trick his father into camping with Rusty under the pretense that Rusty is Colby’s straight friend and future business partner. Colby is convinced that, given the chance, his father and his boyfriend will get along great…
The idea for Winning Dad was born on the ocean. After working in musical theater, Arthur joined the United States Merchant Marine in 2009 where he wrote Winning Dad while chipping rust and cleaning toilets. He began pre-production in the summer of 2012, when he was recruited by the WA United for Marriage coalition for its Speaker’s Bureau to campaign for Marriage Equality in Washington State. We are happy to report that it is no longer a fantasy to say: Winning Dad takes place in a post marriage equality Northwest!
