Adorable Plush Dolls Available From Japanese eCapcom Store

Sengoku Basara did not make that much of a impact stateside relabeled as Devil Kings (it is often criticized as being too similar story and gameplay wise to Samurai Warriors), but it has proven to be a runaway hit in Japan, most notably with the ladies. Makoto Tsuchibayashi (also character designer for Devil May Cry & Sega's recent Shinobi series) transforms these historical Sengoku-era warriors with his trademark look that makes everyone happy. That is, characters badass enough to satisfy a stereotypical straight male gamer, pretty enough to woo his little sister, yet sexy enough to make her gay BFF blush.

So what does Capcom do with such a successful title? Make tons of merchandise of course! Sengoku Basara is now on everything from stationary to apparel, and is probably currently their most licensed title following Megaman. Available just in time for White Day, Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura, and Chosokabe Motochika will be immortalized as ADORABLE plush effigies for 2415 yen each.

Also, the plush Amaterasu from Okami that was previously shown at various game shows will be available for purchase if you have an extra 4000 yen lining your sofa.

Elebits Pushes Consumption Of Chocolate Koalas

Lunch hours in grade three where some of the happiest memories of my childhood. I hung out with the only other Asian child in my school, Esther. Every lunch hour we would go to the Korean convenience store that was owned by her aunt (it's still in business today!); and by the time we returned, we would be the most popular kids in class. Our paper grocery bags where often filled with lychee flavored gummies, Pocky, gum balloons that where probably toxic, and most importantly, Koala Yummies.

Konami is also relying on children's innate vulnerability to the chocolate filled koala-shaped snacks to help them push more copies of Elebits. From now until March 12th, residents of Japan can participate in a joint promotional campaign sponsored by Konami and Lotte Confectionery.

The prizes for the campaign include a copy of the Elebits game, Elebits apparel, stuffed dolls, small kitchen appliances (!!!), and 1 of 25 Nintendo Wii consoles. Although the contest is only open to residents of Japan, anyone can play the Elebits flash game required to qualify for entry. All you gotta do is collect 1000 watts to obtain the password to enter the draw. Beats a skill-testing math question, doesn't it?

Viewtiful Joe In Full 3-D

Unless you had VFX Slo-Mo activated, chances are you missed out on the Viewtiful Joe action figure sets that flew off toystore shelves. Sold only at select retailers in very small quantities, these Joe figures are so hard to find, a search on eBay comes up completely dry. Action figure manufacturer Jazwares (who also carries several other videogame licenses such as Mortal Kombat and Megaman) announced at the New York Toy Fair that the show is over for the Viewtiful Joe figure line. A second series was planned, but will now never see the light of day.

It looks like you will have to resort to acrylic paint and a Red Power Ranger figure if you want Joe standing majestically on top of your computer monitor.

A Little Friend For Solid Snake

Raiden has a rough history. Disappointed with the lack of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 2, players took their anger on the serial handjob target, Raiden. Their strong man-crushes on Snake caused turmoil and conflicting emotions about the new boy on the block. But attitudes changed overnight when clips where released of Metal Gear Solid 4. One look at the "new" ninja Raiden jumping and slashing his way through Metal Gears in his ultra-high platform heels, and the hearts of fanboys/girls where stolen.

Now that Raiden is more popular than ever, Medicom and Sideshow Toys unveiled a new Metal Gear Solid 4 dolly to celebrate! He comes dressed in his new ninja suit with adjustable visor, weapons, and accessories. From the looks of it, the outfit is not removable like most Medicom products dressed in elaborate armor. So for those of you planning on dressing Raiden up like Rhett Butler to go out on dates with Barbie (or Ken), it looks like you're out of luck. I can't be the only one thinking about this, can I?

Details are sketchy at this point, but expect both Raiden and Solid Snake to hit the stores in the last quarter of the year. Medicom figures are usually premium priced at 12000-20000 Yen, but American retailers should be able to sell the figures at a lesser cost, thanks to local distributor Sideshow Toys who price their figures accordingly.

I do have to admit that Solid Snake has the better butt though.

Ubisoft Boosts Canadian Economy

Interested in a new job, and don't mind moving to a place where gay marriage is legal as Charo? Then look no further than Ubisoft's recruitment website.

CTV broadcasting cooperation
reports that Montreal based Ubisoft is willing to invest approximately $400 million dollars over the next six years in order to beef up their payroll. The software company has plans to create short films based on its licensed properties such as Assassin's Creed; and predicts it will need 500 graphic and CGI specialists for this project alone. Furthermore, they will need to create approximately 1,000 new positions in order to meet unforeseen demand of other upcoming projects.

The announcement was made in the presence of provincial and federal officials in an effort to create visibility of the booming job market in Canada. This news came as a big surprise to market analysts that predicted a slow down in new job creation.

You know there's a serious labor shortage when your local Micky D's and Tim Horton's have signboards promising scholarships and begging for help.

Hurt The One You Love On Valentine's Day With a Wii

EBGames.com is promoting a Valentine's campaign for the Nintendo Wii. The offer includes two different bundles that include four games each, free shipping on all Wii games, and a chance to win the console. But attached to this campaign is a banner that illustrates Wario's apparent love of cute Elf boys, and a very strange (and grave) disclaimer:

Don't Hurt The Ones Wii Love

Use the Wii Remote without causing serious injury or death.

1. Make sure you have plenty of room around you before playing.
2. Stay at least an arm's length away from your neighbor.
3. Put the animals outside.
4. Keep bactine handy.

Don't forget to use the Wii Remote strap.

1. Related to the above, proper strap safety must be observed.
2. Always use the strap when operating the Wii-mote.
3. If our Wii remote controller was one of the initial produced, you may be eligible for a new strap directly from Nintendo.

They mention Bactine but not Ben Gay? Is this corperate scheming at work? Well, I certainly have no time to ponder trifle issues like that. Right now I have to put my clown fish outside before I play Wario Ware: Smooth Moves.

Manner Guide Politely Curtsies To The DS

Taito (publisher of Cooking Mama) has collaborated with professional manner lecturer, Hiroko Nishide, to help the Nintendo generation figure out difference between a salad, supper, and seafood fork by infiltrating their favorite gaming device: The Nintendo DS. My Happy Manners Book will help you to become the perfect lady through illustrated stories, quizzes, and a built-in encyclopedia. The program even features a customized manner curriculum based on your age and previous experience. And yes, Happy Manners will show you where the supper fork belongs in proximity to the Royal Doulton via a touch-screen demonstration.

My Happy Manners Book will be available in Japan on April 7th. A domestic release seems unlikely at this point; so if you're a little rough around the edges and have a débutante ball to attend in May, I would recommend importing this title.

Hopefully, this will start a new trend of domestic training software as my dream of a videogame starring Heloise is just that much more viable now. Now the question is: Is it polite to tap the touch screen in public?

Chulip Kisses America On Valentine's Day


Five years ago today, Chulip was released in Japan on the PS2. Many media sources, print and on-line, covered this import title because of the sheer bizarreness of the premise. It was hyped to Katamari Damancy proportions and would often be described as Grand Theft Auto with kissing. It was soon announced that Chulip would be localized for American consumers. Alas, the game fell off the pending release date lists and would be forgotten about for another three years.

Fortunately, it seems Natsume has finished translating all 50 multi-platform Harvest Moon titles, and will finally release Chulip on Valentine’s day as a Gamestop and EB Games exclusive title.

In Chulip, you move into a small town that has an ancient legend of a magical tree that will grant you eternal love if you kiss your lover underneath it. You must build your reputation as a citizen by helping out fellow townies, and hopefully reach your goal of snogging the girl you have your eyes set on. Eerily similar to my ultimate goal in life, with some minor variations.

Slab Of Beefcake Turbo Alpha II


The post-holiday season depresses many with cold temperatures (unless you live on the eastern seaboard), sparse daylight, and videogame releases far and few between. To lighten up your day, I rummaged through the atrium at the Gay Gamer Library & Recreation Center and found this deliciously twisted image of Ryu from Street Fighter being held captive by Skullomania surrounded by skullicized versions of the other fighters.
