A day I have been looking forward to for what seems like a lifetime is finally coming. Spore is being released in the U.S. on Sunday, September 7th.
I have had my copy reserved for weeks now, and I'm even driving into town on my day off to go pick it up. I imagine my sunday will be filled with many, many hours of creating my own little universe! I played the creature creator quite a bit after it first came out, but that's not really where the fun of the game is. The fun bit is creating your creatures and seeing them grow and evolve from simple tool using beasts into a race of mighty space bound men, exploring strange new worlds, seeking out new life and new civilizations...*ahem*...sorry.
Is anyone else excited for this game? Which platform will you play it on? Have you been reading some of the reviews out yet? Do you think it will live up to the hype?
Alright boys and girls, I just wanted to give you all a reminder about the upcoming interviews I'm doing!
I got some great responses when I posted about it before, but if anyone else has some ideas for questions, comment here too!
In short, I'm interviewing the other writers here at GayGamer, and would like to know what you, the reader, want to know about our writing staff! I'll be doing the first interview this week, and publishing it next weekend, so there is still time to get your questions in! Serious questions only, please! I will not ask anything graphic, or seemingly uncouth. So let's get those questions rolling!

As was pointed out earlier this week, I am new to the GayGamer writing staff (and thank you for all the lovely welcoming comments!). I've been reading the site almost since it began two years ago. When I was asked to join as a writer, it occurred to me that despite reading the site every day, visiting the forums, being in the chat room, and listening to the Podcast, I still knew so very little about the other writers I'd be working with.
An idea came to me that I should conduct interviews with the other writers. But I need your help, readers! I have some questions in mind that I want to ask, but ultimately, this should be about what our readers want to know. So I want you to comment on this article with questions you would like me to ask about our writers. You can respond with general questions for all our writers, or questions you might have for a particular individual. (Serious questions only, please)
These interviews will be published every two weeks, which should give me enough time to find the opportunity to chat with our writers and get a great interview! Your input will make all the difference though. Let's really get to know all the writing staff at GayGamer!

So despite what many, many in the gaming press might have to say about their showing at E3, Nintendo is still a giant in the industry. And as such, they have been in the business long enough to see many come and go. As per a story from Kotaku, it turns out that Nintendo have been gracious enough to send out thank you notes to members of the press who attended their press briefing at E3 this year. Our own Fruit Brute and TinyDancer received theirs just yesterday. The thank you's are signed by Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, vice president of corporate affairs Denise Kaigler and vice president of sales & marketing Cammie Dunaway.
Is this an apology from Nintendo? Are they acknowledging the discontent from the gaming press (and I'd imagine many gamers) about what was offered at E3? Or is this Nintendo thumbing their nose at the press, stating "We did what we wanted to, whether you liked it or not"?
The way I was raised, sending thank you notes is a very polite and proper thing to do when you have some kind of gathering. Personally, I think that Nintendo is being genuine in thanking people for attending. It's a big deal to put on a show like E3, and it's an opportunity for the developers to show their wares to people who can ultimately influence attitudes about the games. Nintendo, you stay classy!

For my first foray into writing for a gaming blog, I want to discuss something very near and dear to my heart: My Mac.
I've been using OSX for 5 years now, and I'll never go back. However, for the first few years, the one thing I missed was all the games my friends were playing on PC. They mocked me, "Oh, you can't come to the LAN because you can't play any of the games!". When I bought my first Mac (a 12" Powerbook that I still use daily) it was with the intent that it was for work and school purposes, not gaming. Besides, at that point in my life, I had little time for gaming. Now, I have lots of time and a desire to play "PC" games, but without owning a PC. Thanks to various pieces of software, my 24" iMac can run almost anything I want to play!
Hit the jump for a rundown and my opinions on various ways to play PC games on OSX.
