I had the great opportunity to attend a Sony event that showcased the latest title in the Resistance fps series. Resistance 3 is looking very nice and getting a chance to play with the updated multiplayer mode was a fun experience at the event. Resistance 3 has some great features that have been added as well as bringing back some that were missing in 2. What stuck out to me was the return of the weapon wheel from the original game, that went missing in the second title as well as co-op multiplayer. The event highlighted what the developer was dubbing, "choice based" shooting, and this is a very evident theme, especially in the multiplayer component. Probably my favorite aspect of the multiplayer, which will be 8 versus 8 max, is the abilities you are able to use in the game. These abilities are passive or active, active abilities are iniated with the D-Pad and the passive abilities are various stat buffs. The multiplayer also contains berserks for those who obtain killing streaks rewarding players for moments of great skill. The emphasis on in depth customization will allow players to tailor the game to their play style and allow them to also explore and master new play styles, after this event, I for one am very excited to see the final build of this title!...

Nintendo's Iwata and Reggie kept us very happy today during the GDC keynote. They highlighted some great things that I want to share with you all today in case you missed it! Super Mario for 3DS was shown. It looked like a 3D Mario title but it had a more classic, Mario 3 style look to it, with the newer beautiful 3D styles we've become familiar with. The logo also had the racoon tail on it, implying that this classic powerup will be making a triumphant return. Also noted, it appears that Mario becomes small again when hit, as well as possibly hatless. Nintendo confirmed that the 3DS will have support for Netflix's streaming service, as well has movie trailers in 3D, as well as a future feature on 3DS for exclusive video content. Future capabilities to record 3D video that had been mentioned before on Iwata Asks. Zelda Skyward Sword was also shown and it looked great. The short trailer showed off some of the precise sword movements and showed users needing to slash the sword in certain directions for various tasks. Also mentioned was that we could expect some products based around the 25th anniversary of the series. Nintendo mentioned that they want to improve their use of digital downloads, and admitted weaknesses in this area and praised competitors for their efforts in online social networking with gaming. 3DS was confirmed to have Game Gear and Turbografx-16 games to its Virtual Console in the future. Very exciting news!...

Well I'm just getting to where I have a steady enough Internet connection to share what I learned at GDC today. Sucker Punch, the good people behind the sneaky Sly Cooper games updated us all on the inFAMOUS 2 and the new feature they are going to be implementing into the game: user generated content. User generated content is obviously very big right now, but the demo we saw today showed us how Sucker Punch plans to implement this feature. The user generated content will be implemented into the core game alongside the missions created by Sucker Punch. While a lot of user created content will be available, Sucker Punch plans to implement the best and most played as in game options for the player, as well as selections based on the studio's favorites they have seen being made by the community. Sucker Punch said that users will have access to all the vehicles, props, and game types made available to them that they use in their missions and will even include special types of missions for users to create. This is very exciting and has some fresh implementations on user generated content. The user generated content seems pretty deep so it may not have that generic feel to it that is does in other games and it sounds and looks like the way it is being implemented, by what we aw in the preview today, that it will be very streamlined into the game, as said by the developer. This is a fresh take from games that either focusing completely on user generated content or games that just tack this feature on in an in game download section that fizzles out quickly in the game's lifespan. It will be interesting to see what kind of missions are created and just how creative the community can be at making great user generated missions!...

The interview points out that it is not complete at the time, but the final game will have full Move support. We all already had heard that they were considering printing more as the limited edition game was in very high demand, and we all know Mario prints money. While criticized for not offering much in the way of extras, the Mario fanboy within me just had to have this to complete my Mario game collection.
It is freezing cold where I am from and I do believe I am coming down with something. However, before heading to bed and surrendering to the bitter cold weather, Joystiq warmed me up by posting a new trailer for the upcoming title, Playstation Move Heroes, a game that puts some great duos from the Sly Cooper, Ratchet and Clank, and Jak & Daxter titles. A new Playstation Move title is something I've really been looking forward to, as you may have heard. Sly Cooper also happens to be one of my favorite platformers ever created and I am a bit interested in seeing how his abilities are going to be used in this title. It will also be interesting to see how the developer will bring these worlds together and seeing all of these diverse characters interacting, though Murray will be missed. Head over to the linked article which shows us a bit of the story behind the game. The game doesn't look too shabby visual wise, but I would much rather continue seeing Sly and Bentley in their cel-shaded style.

Dragon Quest is a series that I admit to not really playing much of until the release of the beautiful title, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King. Before that I had played bits of pieces of other Dragon Quest titles when I came across them, which was a fairly rare opportunity for me. As a youngster, I'd typically be saving up lawn mowing money to be playing the latest Zelda or Mario title, and these games simply went under my radar, like they did for most American gamers.

However, I've since gone back and played a lot of these titles in the form of their DS ports and have fallen in love with their endearing, classic feel. I must say, Dragon Quest has nestled itself as one of my favorite gaming series and I cannot wait to see more titles down the road. What I like best about the Dragon Quest series is how it unashamedly sticks to its roots. This is a classic styled Japanese RPG and is in no way ashamed to show it off. Random battle encounters, simple battle screens and battle systems, simple story telling, and eye-roll inducing in-game accents (text only of course). However, there is a certain charm about this and I for one prefer more traditional RPGs as I find them more approachable and less intimidating to get into at the beginning. Interestingly enough, many of the Dragon Quest games were originally known as Dragon Warrior in their American releases. I guess "Quest" didn't sound American and manly enough, so it was pumped with "Warrior," which sounds more truck-driving and steak-eating I suppose. Regardless of what they are called, these titles have a great amount of charm and are a great way to get a healthy dose of the RPG world's roots.

Dragon *sigh* Warrior III, chronologically the first title in the original trilogy, starts like most traditional RPGs. That is, you wake up, you get an adventure to save the world from evil forced upon you for whatever reason. Again, aside from a simple story, the game also features a very basic, traditional combat system in which the player levels up and gains experience points from turn based battles. Dragon Warrior III features a class system, and aside from your main character being set in the Hero class, the others can choose from a handful of other roles. Some examples being Fighter, Mage, Jester, and others. This obviously affects which spells can be learned as well as various character stats for battle. The gameplay and story of this title is simple and not really anything out of this world, even when it was originally released. But the gameplay is still solid and is quite a long enough adventure for old RPG standards.

Dragon Warrior III has only been officially released in North America in the GameBoy Color format in 2001, aside from its original NES release, as far as I am aware of. Also, like many early Dragon Quest titles, it did not really sell all that well in the states. Especially in comparison to how it performed in Japan. However, Square-Enix has really built up the Dragon Quest line in recent years in the States, making this a very timely port for the 3DS. The title would get a second chance at life and allow player who missed the limited release on the GameBoy Color, another chance at snagging this gem. Having a nice, traditional RPG to play through on the go, built into your shiny new 3DS system would make this a must have 3DS Virtual Console must have. The title it is so heavily centered in traditional Japanese RPG gameplay means that this game isn't for everyone. However, if you are a fan of hardcore, traditional RPGs, this title is right up your alley. Heck, if you are one of those people who are only really a fan of modern RPGs, still give this title a shot and see how one of your favorite genres has evolved over the years.

The classic action-platform series, Mega Man has legions of devoted followers. And really, why shouldn't it? Mega Man is a gaming icon, right up there with Mario and Sonic, very recognizable and often brings fond memories to those who were getting into gaming during the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System. Mega Man's addictive robot battling on consoles push gamers to higher levels of difficulty and the portable GameBoy editions were no different. In fact, the portable editions are known for being just as, if not more difficult games at times than their console counterparts.

Mega Man V has stood out to me for awhile. While the game certainly rehashes many of the gameplay elements of the console games, Mega Man has a new threat of enemies that were previously not seen on any of the console games. The "Stardroids" are a group of robots from space that seek to attack Mega Man's world. Rather than featuring a combination of bosses from previous Mega Man console games, like the other portable titles had done, this title brings new robot masters that are named after each planet in our Solar System.

As usual, Mega Man's first main weapon will be his steady blaster arm, which now also has the Mega Arm, which works similarly to the charged Mega Buster. Rush also comes along to do the usual "Rush Coil" and "Rush Jet" to make level navigation smoother for the player. A newcomer in the form of a robotic cat is introduced to the player. This cat, Tango, will attack enemies around the room, much in the style of Beat in previous games in the series. The P-Chips currency also makes a return for item purchasing. I for one think the Mega Man series is in dire need of more Tango. I mean think about it. Everyone could use a robot cat to attack your enemies! I for one would certainly appreciate such a companion.

Surely Capcom will tap into their catalog of portable Mega Man titles when the 3DS Virtual Console is open to other game developers. The portable editions of the Mega Man title usually add an interesting mix of boss masters from different titles and some bring some new fresh faces to the series, such as the new bosses mentioned in this article and characters like the "Mega Man Killers" from Mega Man III. I am not too certain as to whether 3D effects will add too much to these games visually, but being able to have this contained on the go again would make me one happy gamer! How about you? Did any of the portable takes on Mega Man tickle your fancy? Let's hear about it!

I propose we get some of the best titles in the Virtual Boy catalog!

Yea, yea I know I sound insane. I know Nintendo obviously will want to do everything they can to distance themselves from the Virtual Boy with the 3DS. I also know that they've only said that they plan to emulate Gameboy and Gameboy Color games, with the possibility of adding Game Boy Advance titles down the road. Though hopefully any self-respecting gamer is secretly praying each night that they eventually add WonderSawn Color, NeoGeo Pocket Color, and GameGear to the lineup with added 3D effects, hey a guy can dream, right?

I know the Virtual Boy has a bad reputation and with good reason. Many people found the black and red visuals to be very hard on the eyes and while Nintendo had some great titles on the horizon for sort of a "reboot" of the system, they decided to can the little guy before titles like Donkey Kong Country 2, Bound High,Super Mario Land, and Dragon Hopper could be released for it.

However, just because a system doesn't happen to have a solid lineup through and through doesn't mean there aren't some gems to be had. After all, even N-Gage had those Pandemonium ports and...um...that bad Sonic Advance port. Okay, okay bad example.

I cannot help but wonder just how many of you spouting out hate of the Virtual Boy have ever actually laid hands on one. I have owned two of the systems myself and there are a couple games I've always really enjoyed for the system that I think a lot of gamers will too, given the chance to replay them again or experience them for the first time. So here are my picks for some games I thoroughly enjoyed on the system and hope and pray someday get a second chance at life on the 3DS.

Mario's Tennis is a great example. This pack-in game for the console actually is the title that truly spawned some really killer Mario sports titles. We all love Mario's Tennis for the Nintendo 64, it was always one of my favorites on that system, but we have the Virtual Boy version to thank for laying the ground work. The game features nice looking sprites though on fairly bland backgrounds. However, the 3D esque effects give some nice field of view and allow you to experience depth much better than any previous tennis title that came before it. Sure some stage variety would have been nice, as well as more game mode options, and items, but this title is simple, fun, and back in the day, came free with the system. This game being emulated on the 3DS would make a killer downloadable title and I have a feeling would sell very well for Nintendo by the name "Mario's Tennis" alone.

Galactic Pinball is hands down one of my favorite pinball titles ever created. Developed by Nintendo's Intelligent Systems (Super Metroid, Tetris Attack, Paper Mario, etc.) this title featured addictive, simple gameplay with fun mini-games built into each board (one with a fun Samus Aran cameo). Galactic Pinball is known for having some of the best sound effects and music of any Virtual Boy title and while the gameplay is fairly straightforward (it is pinball after all) and never quite reaches the same quality of Turbo-Grafx 16's Devil's Crush, the boards all have some unique aspect of them that keep the gameplay fresh. Controls are simple and tight and the depth effects added a fun visual aspect to the game that the 3DS will be able to easily mimic. Your corneas will be begging for a break once you get hooked on this little gem.

Wario Land for the Virtual Boy was, in this platformer fans opinion, THE reason to own the system. Great level and visual design along with addictive, fun platforming shows what Nintendo shines at. This fun game plays very similar to the first Wario Land title with some added items. The game has fun boss battles and the levels themselves are quite large with lots of areas to explore. Wario often had to jump between different layers of the stage (think Donkey Kong Country Returns) to obtain all the items in a stage, though like other Wario Games, you don't have to go out searching for every piece of treasure, but it is certainly a joy to do in this game. The 3DS Virtual Console was made for a game like this, I surely hope Nintendo does not shun the chance to let gamers experience one of the best and most forgotten title in the Wario Land series. The only real downside to this title is that is rather short, but it plays much better than Wario's more recent outings. I'm looking at you Wario Land 4 and Wario Land: Shake It. This addictive platformer will have you begging for more.

Jack Bros. was a title published by Atlus. It had a limited run and is one of the more rare titles to find on the console. When it is seen on eBay! It sells for way more than any average gamer would want to pay for it. It would be nice to see this title brought back to life. It features the mascot characters from Megami Tensei, in the first title in that series to be officially translated and released in North America. You pick one of three characters, Jack Frost,Jack Lantern or Jack Ripper, and push through levels to collect all keys on the floor in an over-head view. The gameplay can be compared to The Tower of Druaga, a classic arcade game by Namco and also the classic Atari Arcade title, Gauntlet. However, Jack Bros has a lot more character to it and is easily one of the most unplayed games on the system despite having solid, addictive old school gameplay.

Mario Clash is a title that adds a 3D element to the traditional Mario Arcade game you've probably experience at least once on your GameBoy Advance. The game features that classic Mario gameplay of knocking Mario's opponents off the platforms. While the gameplay did get repetitive, much like the old school Mario Arcade title, but the added stereoscopic 3D effects allowed a bit more depth to the gameplay. Mario was now giving the ability to knock off enemies on different layers of the playing field, and allowing Mario to hop in the middle of the stage depending on level to knock off enemies in the background and foreground. This title would be perfect on 3DS, even if it was a newer, re-made game that allowed for multiplayer with Luigi, in the same style of the Mario Arcade game. So come on Nintendo, if we can't have Virtual Boy titles on the 3DS Virtual Console, give us a downloadable Mario Clash 2, maybe with some nice Paper Mario and Mario Galaxy themed levels and boss battles? Yep, I'm very much a wishful thinker.

So who knows if Nintendo will hear the cries of those of us who've experienced these wonderful titles first hand. I simply would love for these games to come back and show that despite all of the hate about the Virtual Boy that has been dished out over the years, gamers who've never seen or experienced the console themselves can see that there were pretty nice little gems on the system that have gone unnoticed or have just plain been forgotten over the years. I think the bigger names of Mario's Tennis and Wario Land would end up being big sellers on the Virtual Console, especially in the earlier time frame when there are less titles to choose from and gamers are looking to try something fresh on their new handheld.

Kirby had a lot of fun spin-off titles on the Gameboy alongside his standard platforming fare that I have always been a huge fan of. Kirby Tilt 'n' Tumble was always one of those little games that I just was drawn to for its interesting new approach to gameplay. This cute little Marble Madness-esque game came out for the Gameboy Color in 2001 and was contained in a uniquely shaped cartridge from its built in accelerometer. The game is a fairly early example of motion-esque controls being implemented into Nintendo video games, and aside from some limitations, it was a pretty solid title. It was cute and simple, all things that make for addicting gameplay that is appropriate for gaming on the go.

The game has you tilting the Gameboy around to get Kirby through an end of a level that could consist of various enemies (most standard Kirby standbys) and cannons that fire Kirby around to different platforms, shaking the system allowed Kirby to jump. Although, it is missing that ability to inhale enemies to absorb their powers, the gameplay is fun and has that very recognizable Kirby style.

Obviously this game is a no-brainer for the 3DS Virtual Console lineup. The 3DS is confirmed to have motion sensitivity by tilting the system, it should be fairly easy for Nintendo to implement the technology into the GameBoy Color emulation. It also doesn't hurt that Kirby is one of Nintendo's better known characters. I think it would be very neat seeing Kirby pop out at you after you shot him out of one of the cannons and seeing the stars you can collect shining and standing out with some nice 3D effects!

One of the biggest limitations of the original games, however, was the lack of appropriate lighting on the GameBoy Color. The GameBoy Color screen was not always the most bright thing to look at, even when just sitting on the couch at home next to a lamp, let alone when you are tilting the system around. This was really the only major gripe I and other reviewers had of the game and for the most part, with the 3DS' big, bright screens, this issue should be pretty much eliminated. Will Nintendo put it out there for us who've enjoyed this little gem to experience again and allow those who've never heard of this little title experience it for the first time? I certainly hope so!

The Xbox 360, in my mind, has certainly won the first duel of the new boys of motion control in town. Kinect launched with 17 titles and while some of them, such as Dance Central and Kinect Sports, were rather solid titles, there were also a few duds in the selection, such as the new Harry Potter title and Adrenalin Misfits. However, the quality of the titles that were well done easily overshadowed the clunkers released for the new control option and really helped gain excitement from non-gamers to give the Kinect a shot. I'm sure that Oprah endorsement didn't hurt either.

Despite seeing some cool tech demos, I originally had not bought into any of the Kinect hype. I was more excited to see what the Move was going to bring. I guess I saw Move evolving what we got with the Wii in every conceivable way. I saw and can still see its potential as the next step in Wii style controls as we get better accuracy with vastly improved visuals. Not to mention a slightly more robust online gaming experience and a beastly hardware that can improve upon gameplay experience with more advanced AI, larger environments, and more. I was excited to see what PS Move meant for the console FPS, as my current preferred method of killing zombies and hat-simulation is on the PC platform. I've always admired how the Wii interpreted FPS controls, but I've found most of the games controls to be unreliable with motion sensitivity being iffy, especially in games emphasizing motion with the nun-chuck and somewhat unplayable do to the console's limited hardware capabilities limiting such options as downloadable content, online gameplay, and visuals. However, these have yet to materialize at all for the PS3 and I am very curious as to why there has not been more announcements for such titles. I'm even surprised at the fairly small list of Move enabled party style games that the Wii is notorious for over-doing.

However, despite purchasing the PS3 Move Bundle, I was very disappointed by the lineup of software at Move's launch. The hardware is excellent and highly responsive but I found the only real must have title that was Move enabled was the pack in game, Sports Champions, a game I find to be fairly uninspired and frankly, ugly. Despite some reviewers actually claiming to like it over Kinect Sports, I've find both the Wii Sports series and Kinect Sports to have more character, better visuals with their less bland, more stylistic approach, and simply had much more fun playing them alone or with friends. Please do note that I'm excluding The Sly Collection from consideration as although it is a stellar title, its handful of rushed mini-games are hardly really all that qualifying as a Move game to me, I'm more discussing the games that require the Move control scheme, or have it fully implemented into a game alongside standard control options. Resident Evil 5 with Move controls does interest me, but I already own the title on 360 and see no need to re-purchase it. Perhaps a few of you guys could comment and let me know how it plays out and maybe I'll give it a rental!

Currently, I find even budget Wii titles with a few tacked on "waggle" motion gimmick features to be more playable, fun titles than what is currently offered on the Move line. EA Sports Active 2 and Dance Dance Revolution are a step in the right direction, but even they have fallen short of my expectations. However, with the PS3's hardware capabilities, if developers tapped into this and worked hard enough to create something of decent quality, Sony could have something huge on their hands.

Hopefully with SOCOM 4 and Killzone 3 coming down the line, PS Move owners will be having something new to play with. I have not really read too much on the SOCOM title as the series has never really interested me at all, but Killzone 3 is visually stunning and will not only hopefully push developers to create new, fresh experience with the PS Move, but will also push more games on PS3 into 3D. Anyone else have a Move out there and are frustrated by their limited options right now with motion gaming on their beloved PS3 systems? Do you disagree? Politely tell me how I need to wake up and point me to the games I'm somehow missing out on, please!
I for one, wonder how this varies from player to player and what other factors are at play here. While the 3DS has the option to turn down or completely shut off the 3D effects, it does sort of defeat one of the huge selling points of the system, as well as an element that adds to the higher price tag.
