Halo Legends Anime Release Date

Well it looks like the anime Halo project we told you about a few months back, Halo Legends, final has a set DVD/Bluray release date for Feb. 9th of next year. The project itself tells seven stories from the Halo universe over eight different episodes, and as Wootini explained previously, they got some of the best anime studios working on the project such as Bones (Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Fullmetal Alchemist), Casio Entertainment, Production I.G. (Ghost in the Shell, Blood: The Last Vampire), Studio4*C (The Animatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight), and Toei Animation (Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, etc). The project is going to be released in three different ways. There will be the 1-disc DVD version clocking in at $19.98, a 2-disc DVD version that has a few extra features and behind-the-scenes footage for $29.98, and a Bluray version that will have everything the 2-disc has plus a complete overview of the of the Halo universe, all for the price tag of $34.99. Here's a more detailed list of what you can get by buying the bigger sets: "Halo Legends - 2 Disc Special Edition" version will have several hours of incredible bonus features, including: "The Making of Halo Legends" - An introduction to Halo Legends followed by a making-of segment for each episode. "Halo: Gaming Evolved" - Explaining the Halo phenomenon from its inception as an Xbox video game to a present day entertainment franchise. Audio Commentary with directors Frank O'Connor and Joseph Chou. Widescreen (1.78:1) "Halo Legends Blu-Ray" versions will be loaded with bonus materials, including all the great extras from the 2-disc Special Edition as well as "Halo: The Story so Far," an overview of the Halo universe up until the end of Halo 3. Overall, I have to say I'm pretty excited about this anime project, and I'm not even a big fan of the Halo universe. These studios just always seem to flesh out some interesting back stories in these projects, much like they did with the Dark Knight one, and the Animatrix. Plus I guess I'm a big sucker for good anime. So keep your eyes open for this DVD/Bluray on Feb. 9th....

That, my friend, is the world's largest Mario built of LEGOs clocking in at just under 5' 9" (180 cm) and made from over 40,000 Lego bricks, which luckily makes him only weigh 110 lbs. (and I know plenty of 6' guys of that proportion that only wished they weighed a buck ten). Apparently he was built for the LEGO World Fair this year to showcase there, well that and it was a promontional stunt for the upcoming New Super Mario Bros. Wii game due out later this year. The really cool part is that after the fair, they actually put this little guy up for auction on eBay. Turns out it was a charity auction with the proceeds going to help the Ronald McDonald House charity, which helps provide housing to families of children that need specialized medical treatment far from their homes. In the end, this life-sized Mario ended up raking in 3,500 EUR which is over 5,000 US dollars. That sure is a lot of coins that Mario is helping bring in, and definitely more than enough for a few extra lives. World's Largest LEGO Mario Up On eBay [Geekologie]...

Well, sometimes the best of games sneak into to get you late at night, like Michael Meyers in Halloween: creep in silently but you know they've made a mark once the movie is over. Well last week a game that I covered both at E3 and PAX finally went public for all to play, and the best part it's FREE. That game, my friends, is League of Legends. League of Legends is what they are classifying as a Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA for short) that comes from the creative minds that worked on the precusor to most MOBAs, the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III. Each player in the game gets to choose a champion hero that they summon to the battlefield to play alongside other player's champions against 3-5 live opponents. The dynamic strategy and play style that comes from varied human controlled opponents truly does make this game a battle arena that forces you to rethink your strategy each time you play. Since the last time I wrote about the game, they've actually added almost 10 more champions to the roster, added in a tutorial section for new players, reworked the user interface both in-game and for the PVP.net system, and added a whole other map to the lineup. They've really been pulling out all the stops to add more content to the game before it launched, and it really shows. They also promise to continue to add more champions, maps, and items to th game as the seasons progress, and all for a very reasonable price. Best part about all of this is that the game launched last week, and all for that lovely price I talked about of FREE. As part of the launch celebration, too, everyone that signs up and downloads the client can play any of the 30+ champions for free until Nov. 19th when the store is set to open, and will be earning Influence Points (IP) and EXP for playing matched games. This means you can play for free with any hero to see how the game plays and give you a leg up on in-game currency (IP) during this pre-season. I've been playing the game for the past two months in beta, and am still playing it now that it's live, and it really quick and dirty fun. Matches last 20-40 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the match up) and the matchmaking system is actually fairly robust. There is a bit of grind to the leveling system, and currently the rune system is unavailable since the game's store to purchase runes/boosts/champions won't be open until the season starts on the 19th, but there are plenty of rewards to keep you excited while leveling up. I will admit that I can't fully guage how the end-game of LoL will play out without the pricing model of the store setup, but you'll be sure to hear all about it from me once we get more firm information on how much champions cost to unlock, what custom skins are available, and how the rune system works. Well enough of my gushing about it, if you got some free time and an alright graphics card in your PC, download the game and see for yourself. Won't cost you any money, and I promise you'll have a good time. League of Legends Download...

Well it looks like Tiny Dancer isn't the only one with a birthday recently. Some of you might remember that a year ago you went out and set down a nice chunk of change to adopt a lovable little Sackboy and let him make his way into your heart, even if you did change what he looked like 100 times in the process of learning to love him (not to mention all the fiery deaths those boys died to). That's right, LittleBigPlanet has turned one year old, and Media Molecule is celebrating the best way they know how, by giving you free sackboy costumes to dress up your own sackboy for this momentous occasion. The first costume is one that proves that it is a piece of cake to bake a pretty Sackboy. That's right, in true birthday tradition, one of the costumes is that of a piece of pink frosted cake with a single candle on the head. The other outfit is the one that has a number of people excited, since it has been unavailable at the store for over a year now. That's right, spaceboy is making a comeback for one week only, which means that you can make your sackboy don this fantastic spacesuit anytime you wish. The best part about this birthday celebration? These two outfits come at the lovely birthday price of "Free". So on Thursday, Nov. 5th, make sure to hop onto the LittleBigPlanet Store to get your two free costumes, and we'll keep our eyes peeled for the other upcoming specials coming from Media Molecule in the next couple of weeks.
Milla Jovovich, everyone's favorite kickass heroine of the Resident Evil movie series and the perfect being from Fifth Element is also a loving mother with a 2 year-old girl named Ever. While working on the movie The Fourth Kind, Parade magazine decided to ask Milla some questions on her movies, her child, and her influence. Some questions included asking why her Resident Evil movies do so well in Japan, and a movie (.45) that never made it to the big screen but with which Milla really conected; however, the most interesting question of the lot was Milla's advice to how parents should deal with their children seeing violence and sex in the media: "I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it's OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It's really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards. And it's the same with video games." What a novel idea, parents actually taking an interest in what their children see and play. A good portion of what children interact with can be effected by talking to them about the standards you want in your house. Then again, all of that actually involves "parenting" your children, and I think sometimes it's just easier to let the videogames and the TV play the babysitter. In the end, I'm just glad she has what seems like a level head on her shoulders, maybe that's why all the zombies want it.

Some questions included asking why her Resident Evil movies do so well in Japan, and a movie (.45) that never made it to the big screen but with which Milla really conected; however, the most interesting question of the lot was Milla's advice to how parents should deal with their children seeing violence and sex in the media:

"I think parents need to take a lot more responsibility than they do about whether it's OK for their children to go to Resident Evil or any other movie with violence or sex or whatever. It's really easy to blame Hollywood for violence having an effect on kids, but movies would have no power if parents would just set their own standards. And it's the same with video games."

What a novel idea, parents actually taking an interest in what their children see and play.

While we all knew it was coming soon or later, the highly anticipated MMO coming from Bioware, Star Wars: The Old Republic, announced the Jedi Knight as one of the Republic's playable classes. This announcement alone will probably draw many people towards the game that want to wield lightsabers and use the force to vanquish foes. This also marks The Old Republic MMO as being very different from the Galaxies one of years pass, since you don't have a long list of feats to do to become a Jedi (well before they completely overhauled the class system), but I think most fans already realized this MMO incarnation of the Star Wars universe is not aiming to be like the last. So over on the game's site, they have a number of goodies up now about the Jedi Knight, from a quick background of the Jedi's role in the Republic's battle, to info on how the Jedi's can be outfitted, to some videos of common combat tactics. It's fun to watch the Jedi Knight use his lightsaber to ward off incoming blaster fire and use the force push on enemies, but the lightsaber boomerang has to be the coolest feature yet. Overall it looks like the classes that Bioware is adding to the game are going to be exciting, with the Jedi being the icing on the cake. I leave you with the dream of what the Jedi Knight can bring: For many, the Jedi Knight is the guardian of a precious dream; a dream of peace, a dream of justice, a dream of a brighter future. The fate of the galaxy depends upon the Knight's ability to keep this dream alive....

Well today marks the big launch date of the fashion fabulous Bayonetta game in Japan. Unfortunately, those outside the land of the rising sun have to wait until after Christmas or beyond before we get to see this high heeled vixen fight the forces of darkness. Luckily, Sega has decided to drop us some eye candy too keep us happy despite the sadness we may feel in knowing others are feasting upon the Bayonetta banquet already. Your respite comes in the form of a few gameplay videos that were released today with English voice overs for the characters. The one at the top shows one of Bayonetta's transformation sequences, in which apparently demon like angels help rip up her clothes so that she comes out looking even more fabulous. It also showcases some of the filmstrip cinematic style the game uses from time to time along with some regular beat-em-up fighting sequences. The other video is after the jump and is the actual opening sequence to the game, so if you don't like spoilers I suggest not watching it since it basically sets up the storyline for the whole game while also allowing you to destroying enemies in a fantastic free-falling environment. Overall, these videos just make me want Bayonetta that much more, which means that the New Year can't get here fast enough....

Who says you have to have the legal right to marry in order to chow down on some companion cube wedding cake? Well not the two lesbian gamers who had a wedding ceremony this September in Australia with plenty of friends, gaming references, anime, and love involved. Their wedding cake is shown at the right, which incorporates their love for the game Portal as well as themselves being captured as characters from the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena. A lot of the work of prepping for their wedding was through careful planning and a number of DIY projects. They tackled everything from Portal themed music, to creating their own centerpieces, hand-embellished corset, skirts, petticoat and detachable train. If you go to the article on Offbeat Bride you can even see a number of fantastic photos they took in their dresses, playing DS, and doing other geeky and romantic things. My favorite is a picture of their wedding bands laying loving on top of a white DS. Even the bridesmaids get in on the cute photo action. Overall, I have to say that it's reassuring to see two people so in love that they aren't waiting to make sure the government recognizes what they already know they have with each other.
Well, I'd never be one to say that Square Enix doesn't love their fans, despite how much of an uproar some fans make over changes to some of the company's franchises. Well, it looks like we got proof now that they do love us, or at least the ones that have easy access to the Japanese market. Turns out that on November 25th, Square Enix will be releasing yet another music compilation of their classic game songs redone by various artists. The album will be called Love SQ, and you can see the Japanese trailer for it above. I have to admit that I love the red Fighter and Mage shown near the end as well as the jazz remix of the classic Final Fantasy theme. As for the track list of the disc itself, I did a little searching and found it: Final Fantasy -- Main Theme (PE'Z) Final Fantasy III -- Yuukyuu no Kaze (De De Mouse) Chrono Trigger -- Chrono Trigger & Toki no Kairo (Novoiski) Chrono Trigger -- Harukanaru Toki no Kanata e (livetune) Chrono Trigger -- Kaeru no Theme & Sentou Shori (Sexy-Synthesizer) Final Fantasy -- Chocobo no Theme (Good Luck Heiwa) Romancing Saga -- Medley (note native) Seiken Densetsu Legend of Mana -- Medley (muZik) Final Fantasy -- Battle Medley (Pia-no-jaC) Final Fantasy -- Prelude (no.9) I know everyone expected there to be some Final Fantasy on there (which there is a ton), but I'm glad to see Chrono Trigger and Legend of Mana on there too.
With Assassin's Creed II coming out next month, it turns out that Ubisoft wants to start turning up the publicity train to full blast. The way they are doing it this time, with a series of short films called Assassin's Creed: Lineage that give the prequel to the setting, family, and secrets of the upcoming Xbox 360, PS3, and PC game. The films are going to be released in episode format on YouTube starting on Oct. 27th, and the above video is a short trailer for the first episode. Apparently the films are going to center around Giovanni Auditore da Firenz, who is the father of the main character of the videogame, Ezio. The film is all live action, and they used a lot of the same actors that were used to make the motion capture and voice work for the upcoming game, so you'll be hearing a number of the voices and seeing many of the characters that will also inhabit the game, though there may be an age difference. It's good to see game companies using creative and artistic methods of getting more story out there for players. Even if the films don't end up being "A" quality, it's still something that Ubisoft is putting out for fans to try and help create a lusher Assassin's Creed universe and richer gameplay experience....

Even if the films don't end up being "A" quality, it's still something that Ubisoft is putting out for fans to try and help create a lusher Assassin's Creed universe and richer gameplay experience.

Any of you readers that keep your nose to the t-shirt fashion ironing board have probably already seen the design printed to the right before. It is a clever design by contributor Gprod at the site Teextile that was run a few months back. Apparently this week is reprint week at the site, so they brought it back for the run, and for today it's at the sale price of $12 instead of the normal $15. While I'm not sure the exact inspiration for the shirt, I gotta say I love the way it looks. It's got a whole spy/espionage feel to it, while the suits and colors also conjure up images from Reservoir Dogs. Plus, it's great to see some actual motivation for some of our classic videogame characters to do what they do. Not all that surprisingly, Mister Orange (AKA Clyde/Pokey) seems to not be at the scene of the crime this time, but Inky, Pinky and Blinky are hot on that pellet gobbler's tale. Whatever you do though, don't get your hopes up at seeing what is inside the briefcase, just like in Ronin, it's only a red herring as to what is really going on (or maybe just some red cherries). Any way you look at it you better scoop up this deal before it sells out, runs away, or worse yet if Janie's got a gun (run, run, aaaawwwayayayay). Runaway [teextile]...

Next week the big FPS/RPG game from Gearbox, Borderlands, will be hitting store shelves and it looks like 2K Games is out in full force to promote the game. I gave my impressions of the game from the time I spent with it at E3, and Flynn recently got to sit down with a preview copy of the game to give his own take on the game and how it plays. Well it looks like a few other people have chipped in their two cents, and in the TV ad above you can see some of the positive things people are saying about the game. I just liked the ad because of the cowboy outlaw music they got running in the background. Well it has that and it also really showcases the fantastic art style of the game. Some of the quotes are pretty interesting, such as them touting the "Ba-zillion Weapons" available in the game. Overall, it looks like crossover fans of the RPG, FPS, and Co-op genres are in for a treat next week when Borderlands comes out on the Xbox 360 and PS3, with it coming out on the PC a few days later....

To the right is the front (left side) and back (right side) of today's current Woot.Shirt which displays in easy to understand pictures all the different US ratings. Granted it's for movies and not videogame games, but that's just semantics, what you have to realize is that while all the pictures on the front have to do with violence, the big one on the back has to do with NC-17 sexual content, which in this case appears to be a male mouse and male cat putting down their violence and putting together their lips. I mean the slight resemblance to Itchy and Scratchy alone is enough to buy it with just the front of the t-shirt, but like many things we choose to pursue, the backside definitely seals the deal. This shirt being the shirt of the day today means you can snag it for only $10 if you hurry. But if you are late to the game, they'll have it back up on their reckoning charts for at least a week for you to pickup at $15. While it might not have much to do with gaming, it does have everything to do with how we like our entertainment. At the same time it does raise the question of why sexuality in the US is one of the few things that'll give you an NC-17 rating, but that's more something for the comments section to talk about.
Well, with the track list of LEGO Rock Band dropping yesterday, many people were quite happy to see a few Queen songs on there, hopefully as a precursor of things to come. In fact, Brian May, the former guitarist for Queen had this to say to the BBC about being in the game: "It's the ultimate accolade, to be portayed in Lego," he said. "My dreams are all fulfilled now." Apparently they are so thrilled about it that there are talks happening right now to try and make a standalone Queen Rock Band game, much like the Beatles version that came out last month. Considering how well Queen's Singstar songs do in Europe (and in the US too), I'm sure there is a lot of money to be made off in such a spin off. Brian May's himself said about the possible project, "Yes we're into it, I think it may happen," which is a good sign.
Well, LEGO Rock Band, the family friendly version of Rock Band just spilled some important information on all things dealing with songs, downloads, and content. The game, due out this holiday season on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS, just announced the full list of songs that will be included with each version of the game. They also explained how previous Rock Band songs and the DLC will work with this game too. Users that already have Rock Band 1 and/or 2 for the PS3 or Xbox 360 will be able to download all those game's stock songs into LEGO Rock Band by paying a one time fee of $10 (800 MS points). Nintendo DS owners and Wii owners seem to currently be out of luck when it comes to getting the backlist of songs. Moreso, only PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to use the Rock Band Music Store to download more songs for the LEGO version of the game. The catch there is that to keep the game "family friendly" the online store will only allow users to download songs that are deemed "suitable for all ages". Hit the jump to see the full list of songs for the Wii/PS3/360 and the other list for the DS.
